Speaking of “One Ford”, I saw my first & second Mustang last week. Damn it’s a big car, bloody cool though and sounds great.

the Edge doesn’t really blow anyone out of the water, it’s pretty much generic %CUV%. though I’ve got two gripes with this guy’s review:
1) “One Ford” is not about selling every nameplate in every region. If it was the F-150 would be axed since it’s pretty much North-America-only. It’s about not letting FNA, FOE, FOA, FSAO, etc. act as completely independent companies. That led to nonsense like the U.S. Fusion being on a completely different platform (CD3) from the same size Mondeo (EUCD.) Or the Escape and Kuga being two totally different (yet again, same size) vehicles.
2) Edge has the same interior as the S-Max because the Edge, S-Max, and Galaxy are all the same architecture (CD4.2) S-Max and Galaxy are basically “stretched” Edges with seating for 7. it would have been incredibly expensive to come up with a different IP and interior just for the Edge.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

Too bad the US market will never get a diesel or manual edge. Funny they don't plan on bringing over the 3.5l V6.

Few people would be interested. Note that fuel is incredibly cheap currently, relatively. I pay €1.40 for a liter of regular gasoline at a cheap pump. That’s $6 a gallon US. Prices can only go up from there. People who don’t mind paying for the extra running costs of having a big gas engine in a boat like the Edge will get something nicer from the Germans (or LR/Jaguar/Volvo) anyway.
This is ignoring CO2 emissions taxes many countries issue. They can price a 3.5L V6 Edge right out of the market. If you want power you get the big diesel.

I can’t see many of these selling in the U.K.
Maybe a few for people wanting something different but Ford will find it hard to prize people apart from the all ready established and favoured VWs, Audis, Land Rovers, Volvo, Mercedes, Toyota, Renault, Honda, Nissan, etc... and even Dacia now. The first four are ones many in the market for such a car aspire to own while the latter ones are more value for money, economy vehicles.
Ford acknowledges that many work through Ford from Fiesta, to Focus, to BMW 3 Series or via Mondeo to BMW 3 Series and tried to reduce the trend by bringing a Vignale spec which will be offered on the Mondeo, S-Max, etc... which will offer a more luxurious touch to the Fords they know.
The Nissan X-Trail starts £8,000 below the Ford edge while the Audi Q5 starts at only £3,000 more than the Ford edge.

It still is fun to see how Europeans react to authentic American cars.

Yeah, in the US with gas being almost the same cost as diesel, and occasionally 87 Octane being even cheaper than diesel, it does seems so bad to get 25 mpg in your 305hp SUV. escpecially when you have many other larger V8 SUVs on the market to comaper it too.

I had a rental Impala Limited when I was visiting the US last month. 300+ hp in that car with its 5/3 size 1994 subcompact quality interior. Anyway, while everything was expensive in New England, the only thing that was so comically cheap it was no factor at all was gasoline. I drove 1600 miles in that boat and the fuel costs were comparable to
one
nice dinner for two. Do the same 1600 miles in a 300+ hp car in Germany and you could’ve used the fuel money for nice dinners for two for a
full week
, also because restaurants are a lot cheaper. Or take hotel rooms: 1 room for 1 night in a ‘cheap’ Boston hotel would’ve been fuel money for 3200 miles. 1 room for 1 night in a random European city would be equivalent to 400 miles in a 300+ hp car, again because the hotels are cheaper.
I don’t get why there aren’t more Americans having their vacation in Europe. It’s cheaper*
Anyway, while I understand why Americans don’t mind bad fuel economy, it won’t be acceptable in Europe. Especially not in a pedestrian Ford.

You should’ve seen my reaction when I sat down in the Chevy Impala (old model) I rented in the US last month. I must’ve had a huge
wtf
impression on my face. Had I not been familiar with my fil’s Dodge Magnum RT I’d be even more stunned I guess.

That was pretty bad, even by our standards.
